All-Star Daniel Boulud to join Local Star Karen Akunowicz and Pastry Chef Maura Kilpatrick on November 3 at Taj Boston for a once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience
BOSTON, MA (July 12, 2017) – The James Beard Foundation (JBF) is pleased to announce that tickets for the fifth anniversary year of the Taste America® national culinary tour are now on sale at jamesbeard.org/taste-america-tickets. The cross-country program will heat up this fall in 10 dynamic culinary destinations including Austin, Boston, Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco and Seattle.
Boston’s weekend-long Taste America program will feature a one-of-a-kind benefit dinner prepared by Taste America All-Star Daniel Boulud, Local Star Karen Akunowicz, and pastry chef Maura Kilpatrick**, as well as free in-store consumer events at Sur La Table® – Copley Place with celebrity chef appearances, cooking demonstrations, book signings, tastings from local producers and artisans, and more.
Boston’s itinerary will kick off on Friday, November 3 at Taj Boston with A Night of Culinary Stars, an exclusive dining event benefiting the James Beard Foundation. The evening will begin with a reception filled with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from local chefs and restaurateurs, including Carolyn Johnson (80 Thoreau, Concord, MA), Michael Lombardi and Kevin O’Donnell (SRV, Boston), Juan Pedrosa*** (Yvonne’s, Boston), Cassie Piuma** (Sarma, Somerville, MA), Marc Sheehan*** (Loyal Nine, Cambridge, MA), as well as host chef Gurminder Gidda (The Taj, Boston). Emcee for the evening will be Jenny Johnson, producer and co-host of NESN’s Dining Playbook. Afterwards, guests will be seated for an extraordinary one-night-only dinner prepared by Taste America All-Star Daniel Boulud (Bar Boulud, New York City), along with Local Star Karen Akunowicz (Myers + Chang, Boston) and pastry chef Maura Kilpatrick (Oleana, Cambridge, MA).
The benefit dinner is co-chaired by Jill A. Greenthal (Senior Advisor, The Blackstone Group; Trustee, James Beard Foundation), Nancy Lukitsh (Trustee, James Beard Foundation), Peter Cameron (Co-Chairman, Lenox Corporation), Nancy Batista Caswell (Owner, Caswell Restaurants), and Nancy Matheson-Burns (President and CEO, Dole & Bailey, Inc.).
On Saturday, November 4, free in-store consumer events will take place at Sur La Table® located at Copley Place (100 Huntington Avenue, #D-006, Boston, MA 02116). Activities of the day will include cooking demonstrations and book signings by All-Star Daniel Boulud and Local Star Karen Akunowicz, tastings from local producers and artisans as well as product demos and tastings from our national sponsors. Reservations for the free cooking demonstrations will begin Friday, October 20th at jamesbeard.org/taste-america-boston.
