Step right up for desserts, drinks, performances, and family-friendly fun as Boston Dance Alliance brings our community together to honor Jeanne Traxler as 2018 Dr. Michael Shannon Dance Champion and Dr. Lyle Micheli as 2018 BDA Unsung Hero!

Jeanne Traxler, 2018 Dr. Michael Shannon Dance Champion, was an original founder and director of the Peanut Butter & Jelly Dance Company in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1976 and in Massachusetts in 1980 which encompasses a professional company performing in schools, libraries, and festivals, PB&J Dance Classes for Kids (ages 3-10), and SMALL FEETS dance company (ages 6-10) which performs in the community.

Deeply committed to sharing the love of creative movement with young children, she has taught dance in many preschools. Jeanne was a founding member of Boston’s Children’s Dance Festival. She has taught workshops and classes for Dance Across the City, Cambridge Dance Month in the Schools, and Dance for World Community. Jeanne created many site-specific and theatrical works in Brookline. She was also on the founding Board of The Massachusetts Dance Education Organization and served for many years on the Board of daCi USA. Jeanne also served on one of the early Boards of Boston Dance Alliance!

Dr. Lyle J. Micheli, 2018 Boston Dance Alliance Unsung Hero is a pioneer in the field of dance medicine who served as attending physician for Boston Ballet and consultant to the Boston Ballet School. Founder of the Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention, he is longtime Director of the Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School.

Dr Micheli is a past president of the American College of Sports Medicine and co-chaired the International Olympic Committee consensus on the health and fitness of young people through physical activity and sport.  Dr. Micheli has authored over 300 scientific articles and reviews related to sports injuries, particularly in children. This past fall, he helped inaugurate Boston Dance Alliance’s Dancer Health Day in Cambridge.
