Dr. Bjorn Stevens, PhD, director of Atmosphere in the Earth System Department and professor in the Max-Planck Institute for Meteorology at the University of Hamburg, Germany will be discussing the importance of water in predicting the climate. He will use physical examples and demonstrations to illustrate how the mighty water molecule shapes the weather and climate around us. The event is free, but please register online: http://support.neaq.org/site/Calendar?id=106061&view=Detail

Dr. Stevens is the featured speaker for the 5th Annual John H. Carlson Lecture, presented in partnership between MIT’s Lorenz Center and the New England Aquarium. The Lorenz Center is a think tank, launched by MIT’s School of Science, and is devoted to fundamental inquiry to foster creative approaches to learning how the climate works.

The Aquarium hosts a series of informative free lectures, films, and discussions for the community this fall. The Lowell Institute supports the lectures. Most are available on the Aquarium’s YouTube channel afterward. Pre-registration is encouraged on the Aquarium’s website, http://www.neaq.org/education_and_activities/programs_and_classes/aquarium_lecture_series/index.php or call 617-973-6595 for more information.
