HISTORY

This is the 10th anniversary of the Greater New England WALK to END Hydrocephalus. It has grown from a walk with two local families impacted by hydrocephalus to more than 40 local families this year. We are expecting more than 400 people to show their support and walk with us on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017

Hydrocephalus affects over 1 million people in the U.S. alone, in every stage of life, from infants to the elderly. Almost 8,000 babies are born with hydrocephalus each year. An estimated 700,000 seniors develop hydrocephalus, but are often misdiagnosed with Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. Head injuries causing hydrocephalus, including in our returning military personnel, are increasing the numbers of Americans living with this challenging condition. There are treatments, but they all require brain surgery. And 50 percent of the treatments in children fail within two years.
