The 2016 Mark and David Ungerer Gala, Auction, & Golf Tournament is a highly anticipated annual event that supports the nonprofit organization 15-40

Connection and its mission. 15-40 Connection was founded in response to a hidden problem.  Since 1975, improvements in cancer survival rates for 15 to 40 year-olds have continuously lagged behind all other age groups. 15-40 Connection is dedicated to saving lives by empowering people to recognize cancer symptoms and communicate those symptoms effectively to their physician.  This event begins with a Gala including a live band, open bar, silent/live auction, and hors d’oeuvres for all guests. Following the Gala, two of the most prestigious golf courses in New England will host the Golf Tournament.

Mark Ungerer and Jim Coghlin, Sr. were business associates before becoming close friends. After Mark and his wife lost their 15-year-old son David to cancer, the father launched an annual golf tournament in an effort for cancer research fundraising and awareness. In 1995, Mark himself succumbed to cancer just shortly after the passing of his son David. Jim, one of Mark’s biggest supporters, took over his fundraising efforts and renamed the golf tournament to honor both the father and son. Jim’s passion for establishing a lasting remembrance for Mark led him to research and discover a startling statistic that drew his attention: the devastating impact of delayed cancer diagnosis was going unnoticed. Improvements in cancer survival rates for those aged 15 to 40 had been lagging behind all other age groups since 1975, and it was now 2005. Jim’s research unveiled a joint study by the National Institutes of Health and the Livestrong Foundation that delayed diagnosis was a significant contributor to this statistic. Jim, his wife Nancy and their family responded by founding 15-40 Connection to save lives through the power of early cancer detection. 15-40 Connection is now using education tools and programming to spark a New Cancer Conversation.
