The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s (SMFA) Medal is awarded annually to individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact on the art world. On May 23, SMFA will honor video and installation artist Mona Hatoum, who has developed a language in which familiar, domestic, everyday objects are often transformed into foreign, threatening, or surreal sculptures. The gala, which includes an award presentation with the artist, seated dinner, and a silent art auction, raises crucial funds for SMFA student resources. Tickets start at $350. More information at www.smfa.edu/medal.
