ACE Mentor Program of Greater Boston is pleased to announce its 8th annual networking event on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The Cyclorama at Boston Center for the Arts. ACE is Boston’s leading, volunteer-based, non-profit mentoring organization for the education and advancement of high school students pursuing careers in the architecture, construction and engineering industries. The spring event serves as the primary fundraising event for the annual scholarship fund of the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Boston, which over its eight years, has awarded over $500,000 in scholarships. Last year in 2017, $125,000 was awarded to 19 graduating high school seniors.

The 2018 event will feature remarks from many of the 15 impressive students who will receive scholarships this year ranging from $4,000 to $12,000 as well as a “Mentor of the Year” award ceremony. Food and drinks will be served, including beer and wine from sponsors Sam Adams and MS Walker, respectively, a DJ for entertainment, and a silent auction for the expected 300-400 guests who support or are affiliated with the ACE Mentor Program.

“The Greater Boston ACE chapter’s continued success is due to our committed mentors and the graduates who have gone on to pursue careers in the architecture, construction and engineering fields,” said Nigel Gallaher, Chairman of ACE of Greater Boston. “The high school students who recently completed our program, aspiring to pursue their education in these industries at the collegiate level, give everyone involved a sense of great pride. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this year’s graduates will make.”

Mayor Martin J. Walsh adds, “Boston continues to thrive. There is a critical need for skilled architects, engineers, project managers, laborers and designers. ACE is preparing youth from diverse backgrounds across our city to take advantage of these economic opportunities.”

ACE of Greater Boston was launched in 2007 and is one of 60 affiliates under the ACE national umbrella. Through practical, project-based, hands-on explorations, students work collaboratively and creatively to design innovative solutions to real world problems. With professional guidance by esteemed industry mentors who are full-time employees of construction, design and engineering firms, students embark on a five-month design project, through weekly sessions after school, to develop the professionalism, teamwork, and collaboration that the industry requires. During this time, the students construct a hypothetical project in order to learn about each discipline and take part in activities such as the ABX (Architecture Boston Expo) exhibition hall scavenger hunt, site visits, Revit training and trade day.
