Urban Improv presents Banned in Boston: #SociallyUnacceptable on April 8, 2016 at the House of Blues. This year’s iconic event will feature socially unacceptable, silly satire, and so-so singing from Boston’s esteemed political, professional, entertainment, and media personalities.
The cast of this madcap musical revue will put aside their dignity and pride to support Urban Improv’s interactive, improvisational theatre programs that empower Boston’s youth to make positive life choices. Tickets are located at http://www.urbanimprov.org/bib-tickets-and-sponsorship.
This year’s cast includes State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz, MA Secretary of Education Jim Peyser, Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu, Congressman Jim McGovern, Aerosmith’s Tom Hamilton, personalities from NESN, WBUR, WCVB, KISS 108, WGBH, musician Sally Taylor, Sam Kennedy of the Boston Red Sox, Josh Kraft from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston and many, many more.
Banned in Boston raises funds for Urban Improv, a non-profit organization that uses structured improvisational theater workshops to teach violence prevention, conflict resolution, and decision-making to children and teens across the state. From being an ongoing part of a school’s curriculum to implementing workshops on topics such as bullying, sexual assault, race, and gun violence, the organization is determined to help students proactively prepare for situations they may find themselves in.
Termed a rehearsal for real life, the organization takes students through different scenarios, looking at different responses and asking other students to participate and respond.
