Instead of holding students accountable, why not build accountable students? Today’s schools face a common challenge. Many students lack confidence in their ability to deal with the rigors of course work. Many have not acquired the skills to overcome obstacles and solve problems. Most of them have not learned how to counter fears and doubts by redirecting their thinking patterns. And, too many of them have not discovered the power that comes from holding themselves accountable for their outcomes. Hence, when they encounter resistance or difficulty, they give up and quit. Sound all too familiar?
