This year, we honor four individuals for their relentless contributions to the betterment of our society. The Diversity and Inclusion Award is presented to Guoliang Gary Yu (俞国梁) for his tireless efforts to bring Asian immigrants together through civic engagement to express their collective political voice. In recognition of his generosity and continued support of the Greater Malden community, John Preotle has been awarded the Excellence in Community Service Award. The Outstanding Arts and Culture Award is given to Vincent Yee for his commitment to preserving Asian cultural heritage and promoting better representation of Asians through writing. Eugene Welch, Special Advisor to the Executive Director of South Cove Community Health Center (SCCHC), has been recognized with the Edward F. O’Connell Inspirational Service Award for his continued support of Asian immigrants through the expansion of SCCHC into Boston Chinatown, Quincy, and Malden.

“A major goal of our annual Gala is to build cultural bridges between the East and the West. We wish to extend a heartfelt invitation to people of all ages and walks of life to join us in celebrating the spirit of community.” noted Mei Hung, Executive Director of the Chinese Culture Connection. Through the annual Gala’s fundraising efforts, we are seeking to strengthen and expand the services we provide to the Asian community in Malden and beyond. Please consider sponsoring the event, contributing to our silent and live auctions, and, most importantly, joining us for a memorable evening.

ABOUT THE CHINESE CULTURE CONNECTION

The Chinese Culture Connection is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1985 in Reading, MA. It relocated to Malden, MA, in 1999 by the invitation of former Malden Mayor Richard C. Howard to support the growing Asian population in the area. Over 37 years, we have been dedicated to empowering Chinese immigrants and Chinese descendants of the Greater Boston Area to appreciate and retain their heritage, develop bi-cultural fluency, and enrich others with a deep understanding of Chinese language and culture. During our time in Malden, we have formed strong ties with the City and local community groups. Because of their support, we have remained able to provide educational, cultural, and arts programming infused with elements of Chinese cultural heritage to engage diverse communities and facilitate intercultural dialogue.
