WHAT:  To celebrate World Oceans Day, the New England Aquarium is planning a lively hands-on, family-friendly, educational day. A wide-range of ocean-oriented organizations will discuss how they work to protect the seas from threats of pollution, sea level rise, ocean acidification, and overfishing. Activities of the day include free harbor cruises provided by Boston Harbor Cruises, sustainable seafood cooking demonstrations with guest chefs, a scavenger hunt-style game, live appearances by Magic 106.7, and exhibits on the Aquarium’s growing teen, youth, volunteer, and community service programs. Ben & Jerry’s will be handing out free scoops of ice cream, beginning at noon, while supplies last.

WHO: Sustainable seafood cooking demonstrations will be offered during the day by: Jose Duarte of Taranta Restaurant, Josh Lewin of Juliet, and Jessica Brown of Treats on Washington and Chef Laura Brennan of the New England Aquarium.

Other organizations participating include: The New England Aquarium’s ClimaTeens, the Aquarium’s live blue Service Corps, New England Aquarium Dive Club, Ben & Jerry’s, COSEE OCEAN, Massachusetts Audubon’s Boston Nature Center, Mystic River Watershed Association, Hard Rock Café, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), US Fish & Wildlife Services, NOAA Marine Debris Program, The School for Field Studies, World Ocean School, Boston Harbor Cruises, Salem State University Cat, Cove Marine Lab, Polar Beverages, Boston Latin School, Bow Seat Ocean Awareness, Boston Sea Rovers, Bay State Council of Divers, Charles River Watershed Association, MIT Sea Grant, Viva Vaquita and the Muskwa Club and Magic 106.7.
